New Faculty Appointments

CUSM is a community-based medical school, partnering with clinicians throughout our region to administer our educational programs. If you would like to contribute to the CUSM mission as a faculty member, please review the list of activities for eligibility/maintenance of appointment below. If these align with your interests, please contact the Office of Faculty Affairs (FacultyAffairsOffice@cusm.edu).

Activities for eligibility for and maintenance of CUSM faculty appointment:

  • Contribute to the academic mission of CUSM through teaching or service.
  • Maintain appropriate licensing/certification (if applicable).
  • Participate in required faculty development activities and training.
  • Abide by all faculty policies and procedures including submission of required student evaluations.
  • Ensure CUSM has up to date contact information and respond to administrative requests in a timely manner.

A faculty appointment runs for a period of 3 years (with possibility for renewal) and is distinct from CUSM employment. If you are interested in employment opportunities, please visit our Career page.

Faculty Application Process

Please contact the Office of Faculty Affairs (FacultyAffairsOffice@cusm.edu) if you are interested in joining our faculty. We will connect you with the appropriate unit/department to discuss how you could contribute as a faculty member. If a role is identified, you will be sent the link to our faculty application form. The application will then be forwarded to the Medical Education Department Chair for approval (all CUSM faculty have an appointment in the Department of Medical Education). Application review includes license verification/check for practicing clinicians.

Application is forwarded to the faculty Rank and Promotion Committee for review and assigning a faculty rank (note: if you already hold a faculty position at another school, please make sure it is noted in your application form).

An electronic letter is sent to the applicant, informing them of their appointment and faculty rank. The letter must be signed and returned to finalize the appointment.

Once your appointment is finalized then, you will receive a CUSM email and login and a CUSM faculty certificate. Initial information and resources will be sent from the Office of Faculty Affairs and Faculty Development as well as any other unit (e.g. Clerkship office) that you will work with as a faculty member.

Online orientations for new faculty are held every six months, and you will be sent an invite to join the first session after your appointment.

If you require any other assistance or would like to visit us at the CUSM building, please email- FacultyAffairsOffice@cusm.edu.

Please note that a faculty appointment is separate from CUSM employment. For job listings/applications, please visit the Careers page.
